Stavros and Heidi Eleftheriou founded Kabana in Albuquerque in 1975. Their work grew from a small workshop into a family company known for jewelry made by hand in New Mexico. Màti was created as the place where every collection could be seen together—and where custom design, expert care, and a personal relationship could continue long after a piece was chosen.

1975
Kabana is founded
Stavros and Heidi founded Kabana in Albuquerque. What began as a small family workshop grew around an exacting approach to design, gemstone inlay, and hand craftsmanship.
The first Màti boutique
The complete collection, together
Wanting a place to present every Kabana collection and offer experiences unavailable elsewhere, the family opened Màti’s first location in Albuquerque’s Coronado Mall.
Across New Mexico
A local presence grows
Over the years, Màti welcomed clients in Albuquerque and Santa Fe while remaining closely connected to Kabana’s local designers, jewelers, and workshops.
Late 1990s onward
A second generation
After completing his studies at the Gemological Institute of America, Nick Eleftheriou joined the family company in the late 1990s. For many years he represented Kabana in Japan while remaining rooted in Albuquerque, introducing Swiss watches and shaping a richer experience for every client who walks through the door. Today he leads Màti, carrying forward the work begun by Stavros and Heidi.

Màti’s Old Town and Uptown boutiques remain the flagship retail home of Kabana—an extension of the family’s workshops and a place to experience all of its creations in person.
